McClatchy Launches Digital Kindle Editions

The McClatchy Co. announced today—on Facebook—that five of its papers are now available on the Kindle: The Sacramento (Calif.) Bee, The Charlotte (N.C.) Observer, the Ft. Worth Star-Telegram in Texas, the Anchorage (Alaska) Daily News and the News & Observer in Raleigh, N.C.

AP Layoff Count Hits 90, Meets Goal

The count of Associated Press union employees laid off this week has risen to 90, which, according to the news cooperative, meets its goal of cutting annual payroll costs by 10 percent. It is the AP's largest cut in newsroom layoffs in memory, roughly 2 percent of its workforce.

The New York Times is launching its latest "local" edition in Chicago on Friday in conjunction with the Chicago News Cooperative. The Chicago area report will appear on Fridays and Sundays in the New York Times.

CBS Wins Thursday Overnights; ABC Poised for Leadership Among Adults 18-49

It was business as usual on Thursday, with CBS first in the overnights, and ABC expected to win the evening overall among adults 18-49 thanks to the ongoing strength of Grey’s Anatomy. Third in the metered markets was vastly improved Fox (which was up 58 percent year-to-year), followed by NBC and The CW.
