J.J. Abrams to Direct NBC's Undercovers Pilot?

Nov 6, 2009

-By James Hibberd

J.J. Abrams wants to take a hands-on approach to Undercovers, his Warner Bros. pilot at NBC.

In addition to executive producing the project, Abrams is in talks to direct the opening episode.

Schedule permitting, Abrams will make Undercovers the first TV pilot he has directed since 2004's Lost opener. ABC's two-part Lost opening often is considered one of the best-directed pilots of all time and helped launch Abrams' career into helming such theatrical films as Mission: Impossible 3 and Star Trek.

Abrams has produced several TV shows but is not frequently in the director's chair. Abrams also directed an episode of NBC's The Office in 2007 and "guest directed" an episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live in 2006.

NBC's Undercovers has been described as a mix between Mr. & Mrs. Smith and The Bourne Identity. Warner Bros. had no comment.

2009-11-20

It was business as usual on Thursday, with CBS first in the overnights, and ABC expected to win the evening overall among adults 18-49 thanks to the ongoing strength of Grey’s Anatomy. Third in the metered markets was vastly improved Fox (which was up 58 percent year-to-year), followed by NBC and The CW.

Mr. TV: Stuffing TV Turkeys

It’s almost Thanksgiving, and incredibly this is my sixth annual column dedicated to the best and worst on the small screen. And as always, there are plenty of turkeys stuffing up the airwaves just waiting to be plucked by Mr. TV.
