Ratings Grand Slam for Fox

Fox, no doubt, dominated the Wednesday overnights, with the sixth (and final) game of the Yankees/Phillies Baseball World Series match-up at a series- high 15.2 rating/24 share in primetime. Comparably, that beat the Big 3 nets – ABC, CBS and NBC – combined.

Led by games one through four of The Baseball World Series, it was a clean victory for Fox, with a first-place finish in households, total viewers and the three key demos. Compared to the year-ago week, Fox increased by as much as 54 percent in total viewers.

Fox stood head and shoulders above the overnight competition last night care of game one of The Baseball World Series (Phillies 6, Yankees 1), which outdelivered second-place CBS by a hefty (and estimated) 7.2 rating points. In the distant No. 3 spot was NBC, followed by ABC and The CW.

CBS and Fox held the top spot on this fifth week of the 2009-10 season, with CBS first in households and total viewers and baseball-ignited Fox No. 1 in the three key demos -- adults 18-49, adults 25-54 and adults 18-34.   Sunday).   ABC finished third across the board, followed by NBC and The CW.

The CW Leads in DVR Playback Percent Growth

It is not the most-watched network by any means. Not even close.  But based on the week of Oct. 5, The CW continues to lead the broadcast networks in percent gains from all DVR playback in primetime.

The absence of baseball was costly for Fox on Saturday, which gave ABC and CBS the edge.  But the 6th, and final, game of the ALCS lifted Fox to dominance on Sunday ahead of football on NBC.

Led by game five of The Major League Baseball American League Championship Series, Fox dominated this fifth Thursday of the 2009-10 season, beating normally dominant CBS by nine-tenths of a rating point. Third overall was ABC, which is still expected to win the evening among adults 18-49, followed by NBC and below-average The CW.

CBS led the Wednesday overnight troops, beating second-place NBC by a healthy 60 percent. Third overall was Fox, followed by ABC and distant The CW.  But the 8 p.m. anchor spot remains one of the softest hours in primetime.

Another Winning Week for CBS

CBS dominated this fourth week of the 2009-10 season, with a first-place finish in households, total viewers, adults 18-49 and adults 25-54. Comparably, the Eye net has extended its winning streak to four consecutive weeks in both total viewers and adults 25-54. Fox ranked first among adults 18-34.

Mr. TV: Putting the 'V' in DVR

Other than Lost, the last science fiction show I really got into was cheesy daytime serial Dark Shadows, and that was 40 years ago. Full disclosure: I was actually a member of a local Dark Shadows fan club.
