CBS Wins Thursday Overnights; ABC Poised for Leadership Among Adults 18-49

It was business as usual on Thursday, with CBS first in the overnights, and ABC expected to win the evening overall among adults 18-49 thanks to the ongoing strength of Grey’s Anatomy. Third in the metered markets was vastly improved Fox (which was up 58 percent year-to-year), followed by NBC and The CW.

ABC, CBS and Fox Share Weekly Dominance

Three networks – ABC, CBS and Fox -- dominated this eighth week of the 2009-10 season. CBS finished first overall in households and total viewers, ABC topped the adult 18-49 and adult 25-54 charts, and Fox was the primary force among adults 18-34.

CBS Wins Tuesday; Heather Locklear Gives Melrose Place a Minor Boost

CBS has a lock on overnight Tuesday dominance, with an advantage over second-place ABC of 44 percent last night. Third overall was NBC, followed by Fox and The CW, which experienced a minor boost thanks to the return of Heather Locklear on Melrose Place.

Live Plus 7 Day Ratings Update

2009-11-17

Week six of the Live Plus 7 Day Ratings, which include DVR usage, have been released. Thursday night programming continues to dominate by total number of viewers added via the DVR, with the top 6, and 8 of the top 15 Thursday occupants. CBS’ The Mentalist leads the pack, with an additional 3.15 million viewers as a result of the DVR.

Solid Week One for Lopez Tonight

TBS’ Lopez Tonight, the new Monday to Thursday 11 p.m. hour of talk hosted by comedian and former sitcom star George Lopez, is off to a strong start. Based on final national ratings for the week of Nov. 9, Lopez Tonight built over the comparable year-ago week by as much 61 percent among adults 18-34.

ABC sitcom Hank is now the fourth official freshman 2009 series cancellation, joining ABC's Eastwick, NBC's Trauma and The CW's The Beautiful Life in the land of the recently introduced losers.  We have the full update.

CMA Awards Lead ABC to Victory

2009-11-12

ABC rose to the top of the overnight Wednesday charts care of The 43rd Annual CMA Awards, which averaged a healthy 9.6 rating/15 share from 8-11 p.m. Comparably, that was an increase of nine percent from the 8.8/14 in the metered markets on Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2008.

CBS and Fox Share Week 7 Bragging Rights

2009-11-11

It was a week of split leadership, with consistent CBS first in households and total viewers and baseball-ignited Fox No. 1 in the three key demos -- adults 18-49, adults 25-54 and adults 18-34. This week included games five and six of the New York Yankees/Philadelphia Phillies match-up.

Live Plus 7 Day Ratings Update

2009-11-10

Week five of the Live Plus 7 Day Ratings, which include DVR usage, have been released.  Grey’s Anatomy on ABC continues to gain the most number of additional viewers, with 2.65 million (representing 17.6 percent). But based on percentage, Fox Friday occupant Dollhouse, which is on hiatus until December, leads the pack at 40 percent (2.09 to 2.93 million).

Mixed Weekend Leadership

ABC and CBS tied for diluted Friday leadership, with Fox's perennial combination of Cops and America's Most Wanted tops on Saturday.  But Dallas at Philadelphia on Sunday Night Football led NBC to a strong Sunday finish.

Ratings Grand Slam for Fox

Fox, no doubt, dominated the Wednesday overnights, with the sixth (and final) game of the Yankees/Phillies Baseball World Series match-up at a series- high 15.2 rating/24 share in primetime. Comparably, that beat the Big 3 nets – ABC, CBS and NBC – combined.

Baseball Ignited Fox Sweeps Week of Oct. 26

Led by games one through four of The Baseball World Series, it was a clean victory for Fox, with a first-place finish in households, total viewers and the three key demos. Compared to the year-ago week, Fox increased by as much as 54 percent in total viewers.
