Billed by its makers as a contempo Western, with one-on-one drag races between steely-eyed motorcycle riders serving as the necessary rite of manhood, "Biker Boyz" is seemingly 15 minutes of plot and 90 leisurely minutes of hanging out at night watching guys and a few gals get their recreation by trying to be the coolest thing on two wheels. Not without moments of excitement, romance and rubber-burning redemption, the DreamWorks release won't quite be a boxoffice blowout, but expect a fast and furious march to big bucks in ancillary races. The second feature directed by Reggie Rock Bythewood ("Dancing in September"), "Boyz" stars Laurence Fishburne as Smoke, the "King of Cali" whose legendary career as a drag racer and head of the powerful Black Knights club is the dream of younger-generation lead Kid (Derek Luke).
