'Knowing' leads boxoffice


March 21, 2009 The PG-13 film directed by Alex Proyas and released by Summit led the trio of new wide openers, capturing nearly $8.9 million in 3,332 theaters, setting itself up for a $20 million-plus opening weekend. Bowing in the third spot, Universal's PG-13 "Duplicity," a twisty romantic thriller starring Julia Roberts and Clive Owen that was written and directed by Tony Gilroy, took in $4.7 million in 2,575 theaters. Disney's family-friendly sci-fi actioner "Race to Witch Mountain," which ruled the boxoffice last weekend, down-shifted to fourth place.
