Microsoft responds to HD DVD reports

February 19, 2008 Microsoft's first public comment since reports surfaced last week that Toshiba will likely kill off its doomed HD DVD format sought to stem any potential fallout on its Xbox 360 video game console, for which the computer giant manufactured an HD DVD add-on. Xbox 360 is one of three next-generation game consoles currently on the market; competitor PlayStation 3, from Sony, comes with a built-in Blu-ray Disc drive. HD DVD is one of the several ways we offer a high-definition experience to consumers, and we will continue to give consumers the choice to enjoy digital distribution of high-definition movies and TV shows directly to their living room along with playback of the DVD movies they already own.
