'Transformers' rocks overseas boxoffice

June 28, 2009 Revenge of the Fallen blanketed the international circuit during the weekend, recording an explosive $164.7 million from 9,745 screens -- a per-screen average of $16,904 -- in 58 markets for an overseas total of $188.9 million. Still, the sci-fi action sequel to "Transformers," director Michael Bay's 2007 blockbuster that grossed $389 million overseas, failed to notch a record for a foreign boxoffice launch. With a reported $200 million price tag, it is critical that "Transformers," a special effects-laden saga of shape-shifting robots co-starring Shia LaBeouf and Megan Fox, draws significant numbers overseas.
