"Not that long ago, a person who's a chairman and CEO of a major media company asked me, 'Do you know how hard it is to launch a cable channel?' Even big media companies sometimes fail, and you sure don't do it (successfully) independently,'" Valdez said.
Si TV has carriage agreements with Comcast Cable, Time Warner Cable, Cox Communications, Grande Communications and EchoStar's Dish Network.
"DirecTV is the only deal we don't have -- I'd love to eventually come to terms with those guys, they're terrific satellite providers," said Valdez, who indicated he's had several conversations about carriage with DirecTV.
