'Dark Knight' in cruise control overseas

August 25, 2008 "The Dark Knight" proved again over the weekend that it is a major force overseas, finishing with a mighty $34.7 million from 7,754 screens in 62 markets to lift its foreign gross to $382.1 million, more than double the take for any previous Batman entry. With the market slowing down as the summer comes to a close, the big movies of the busy season are making final rounds before getting ready for their DVD release. Sony's "You Don't Mess With the Zohan," muscling its way into major overseas markets, brought in $10.4 million from 1,985 screens in 30 territories to raise its gross to $56.4 million, while Disney/Pixar's "WALL-E" kept up its pace as a major contender with a weekend take of $8.5 million from 3,193 screens in 29 markets for a gross to date of $162.2 million.
