Sony Classics buys 'Frozen River'

January 24, 2008 PARK CITY -- "Frozen River," Courtney Hunt's drama about immigrants and single mothers, has been sold to Sony Pictures Classics. Heather Rae and Chip Hourihan produced "River"; William Morris Independent repped the filmmakers. The potential awards-season play, which premiered strongly at the Racquet Club last Friday, examines a working-class single mother who teams up with a Native American woman who runs an illegal immigrant-smuggling operation.
