Azerbaijan freezes foreign broadcasts
September 05, 2008 Foreign TV stations will be barred from satellite broadcasting in Azerbaijan until the end of the current presidential election campaign. According to Nushirevan Magerramli, chairman of the national council for broadcasting, this is "because of the lack of a relevant legislative base and out of national security interests," the 1st News Azerbaijan online news service reported Friday. The presidential election is scheduled for Oct. 15.
