HBO, Brit nets come up big at Banff


June 09, 2008 The HBO documentary "White Light/Black Rain" grabbed the Grand Jury prize and the best Asian program trophy Monday night as the Banff World Television Awards were handed out. The Channel 4 teen drama "Skins," which revolves around a group of partying students in Bristol, took the best continuing series trophy, while "Extras," the HBO-BBC sitcom created by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, won for best comedy. The Special Jury prize for overall program was shared by the BBC series "Top Gear" and "51st Birch St.," a U.S.-German co-production for HBO, ZDF and ARTE.
