The U.S. filmmaker has agreed to direct one segment of a three-part ensemble film titled "Eros," comprising works by revered Italian maestro Michelangelo Antonioni and Hong Kong-based auteur Wong Kar-wai.
A spokeswoman for Rome-based indie Fandango confirmed Monday that Soderbergh has agreed to replace Spain's Pedro Almodovar, originally slated as being one of the eroticism-themed art movie's directorial trio.
"Eros" is being co-produced by Domenico Procacci's Fandango and French producer Stephane Tchalgadjieff's Solaris, with plans for the high-profile project to be completed by the end of next year.
