Produced and written by Mark and Michael Polish, with the latter taking sole directing credit, "Jackpot" is the second in a regional (but unrelated storywise) trilogy of indies that began with 1999's "Twin Falls Idaho," a critical favorite and modestly successful boxoffice debut in which the brothers also played the lead characters.
Winner of the juried New American Cinema Award at the Seattle International Film Festival, "Jackpot" won't be a breakaway hit for distributor Sony Pictures Classics, but it will have its passionate defenders and should fare well on video and DVD.
Opening July 27 in New York and Los Angeles, the country music movie with its share of randy women and Middle American rowdiness should do well with hicks in the sticks if not a fair share of big-town hipsters.
