Spike Lee has won the first round in his legal battle against Viacom-owned Spike TV, the cable network he has accused of lifting his name. The state Supreme Court in Manhattan granted the filmmaker a preliminary injunction, according to Bloomberg News, temporarily preventing the channel formerly known as TNN from rebranding itself, as it had planned to do starting Monday. In granting the injunction, Justice Walter Tolub described Lee's legal action as an "earnest attempt by a prominent personality to limit what he regards as the commercial exploitation of his public persona."
