There seems to be more than a modicum of "Memento" in "The Salton Sea," a tangled tale of redemption narrated by a man haunted by the murder of his wife.
Granted, it lacks the brilliant construction of the Christopher Nolan film, but there's still plenty to enjoy on its own lively merits.
Director D.J. Caruso (HBO's "Black Cat Run") and screenwriter Tony Gayton (the upcoming "Murder by Numbers") have cooked up a quirky little crime thriller with considerable style and energy to burn -- almost enough to make you forget just how much star Val Kilmer sounds like Guy Pearce's memory-challenged sleuth.
