Originally planned as a limited series, "Jay" has been stitched together as a one-hour "documentary special," and it shows -- from the rushed pace to the screeching-halt ending. Conversely, the main plot point of McCarroll scrambling to make a dress for "Runway" host Heidi Klum to wear at the Emmys could have been fodder for an entire hour, especially with the way it plays out. Produced by Miramax Television, the Weinstein Co. and Bravo, "Jay" provides ample opportunity for network cross-pollination.
