A dive-bombing furball of a comedy that's got heart but won't be sinking many major competitors at the churning June boxoffice, "The Animal" stars "Saturday Night Live" vet and Adam Sandler company ace Rob Schneider as a young man who pulls a Kafka mission and wakes up one day possessing the physical and instinctual traits of several nonhuman critters.
Columbia's "Animal" has generated headlines already over its marketing, and both the studio and production company Revolution Studios, who stumbled releasing "Tomcats," could have used a Sandler-sized hit.
Crammed with gags, both physical and verbal, "Animal" is neither one for the dogs nor the cat's pajamas.
