Having last stepped behind the cameras to direct 2002's "Sorority Boys," former "Simpsons" writer Wally Wolodarsky can't seem to shake those sophomoric impulses with "Seeing Other People," a crass, clumsily constructed romantic comedy about a soon-to-be-married couple who agree to make good on the picture's title prior to tying the knot.
Concerned that she hasn't been around the block enough prior to settling down, Alice (Julianne Nicholson) talks her TV writer fiance Ed (Jay Mohr) into sowing some stockpiled wild oats and immediately gets down to business by seducing a contractor (Matt Davis).
Collaborating on the script with fellow TV writer and real-life wife Maya Forbes ("The Larry Sanders Show"), Wolodarsky seemed to be going for some kind of coarse-talking, Neil LaBute-inspired edgy sex comedy without bothering to first provide his main characters a shred of credibility, let alone likability.
