David E. Kelley, who has been one of the most outspoken opponents of reality programming, is venturing into the unscripted arena with a reality series for NBC. The pickup by NBC of the David E. Kelly project adds more drama to the relationship between the two networks, following Fox's decision to greenlight boxing-themed "The Next Great Champ" starring Oscar De La Hoya shortly after NBC announced its own boxing reality show, the Sylvester Stallone-toplined "The Contender." Kelley, a multiple Emmy winning writer-producer and creator of such series as "Picket Fences," "Ally McBeal" and "The Practice," repeatedly vented his disdain for network executives' fascination with reality programming.
