Starring Martin Lawrence as a romantic-minded thief in a tit-for-tat with Danny DeVito's ruthless business tycoon -- who unmistakably has less moral ground to stand on, but no one's exactly keeping score -- "What's the Worst That Could Happen?" is unquestionably a disappointment coming from the star of "Big Momma's House" and director Sam Weisman ("George of the Jungle)." Not the hoped-for gut-busting laugher and potent commercial follow-up to Lawrence's FBI-themed comedy that was a hit one year ago, this MGM release struggles to keep one amused as the premise tries to work in kooky supporting players with fitful success. [...] mostly, it resorts to a lot of blustery fussing over a stolen ring and a barely convincing romance, with almost no trace of Lawrence's crazier talents, and it has an overall soft touch (and PG-13-rated dialogue) that seems at odds with the milieu.
