The World Cup-winning god of French soccer, Zinedine Zidane, is brought crashing to the ground in Philippe Parreno and Douglas Gordon's ill-conceived documentary "Zidane: A 21st Century Portrait." Using 17 cameras mixing super 35 mm and high-definition under the direction of cinematographer Darius Khondji, it follows the French star throughout a Spanish league game featuring his club team Real Madrid. With a soundtrack that cuts from virtual silence to ear-piercing crowd noise, the images flicker between close-ups of Zidane and out-of-focus television footage to provide a little information about the actual game.
