Ann Brashares' best-selling serving of "chicklet" lit -- about friendship, empowerment and a pair of extremely flexible jeans -- has made the trip to the big screen quite reasonably intact. The movie, like the book, follows a consequential summer in the lives of four lifelong best friends whose mothers met in a prenatal aerobics class. While they've remained virtually inseparable up until this point, the rebellious, glib Tibby (Tamblyn), shy, artistic Lena (Bledel), sensitive, outspoken Carmen (America Ferrera) and self-assured, athletic Bridget (newcomer Blake Lively) are about to spend their first school break going in very different directions.
