Frank Darabont's "The Majestic," starring Jim Carrey, is the most aggressively retro movie in years. Other than a modern take on the Hollywood blacklist and bits of anachronistic dialogue, Darabont has willed himself to make a 50-year-old movie. Carrey plays Peter Appleton, an eager-beaver screenwriter in the early '50s who has just celebrated the Grauman's Chinese Theatre opening of his first produced script.
