While there was much discussion about the opening of "Kong," what was without question was that boxoffice this past weekend was up a stout 20% from the comparable frame last year. The total boxoffice for the 105 films tracked by The Hollywood Reporter was $129 million, as compared with the $107.5 million generated in 2004. [...] of the past five weekends, four have posted higher revenues than their counterparts a year earlier, all of which has worked to diminish the year-to-date boxoffice deficit, as compared with 2004, by several percentage points.
