NEW YORK -- A filmed record of the tribute concert held at London's Royal Albert Hall on the one-year anniversary of George Harrison's death, "Concert for George" is unlikely to join the ranks of the great concert films, but it does provide both deep musical pleasures and a touching farewell to the former Beatle.
Aptly introduced by musical director and performer Eric Clapton as "an evening of beautiful music and warm feelings," the show was clearly a memorable experience for those lucky enough to be there, and director David Leland has provided a welcome if unfortunately truncated filmed record.
The most moving elements are the finale, in which Joe Brown strums on a ukulele, gently singing "I'll See You in My Dreams" while a torrent of flower petals rains down upon the audience, and the constant presence of Harrison's son Dhani, whose uncanny resemblance to the younger version of his dad could easily spark a new wave of Beatlemania.
