Arriving a little late in the game to make its depiction of cyber sex seem truly fresh, this would-be erotic thriller suffers from the same problem that afflicts so many computer-oriented movies -- namely, that watching characters staring at a screen and typing hardly makes for a thrilling cinematic experience. Previously showcased at festivals ranging from Sundance to Outfest, "On_Line" opens today at theaters in New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco. Chief among them are John (Josh Hamilton) and the too cutely named Moe Curly (Harold Perrineau), roommates who jointly operate a live erotic Web site dubbed Intercon-X.
