While "Princesas" offers sensitive and beautifully wrought performances by its two leads (Candela Pena and Micaela Nevarez, who each won Goya Awards), the film offers little new in way of substance or theme. Caye (Pena), who works out of a beauty shop base with her fellow hookers, comes from a supportive middle-class family who know nothing about her actual profession. Little is provided in the way of motivation for the beautiful young woman's career choice, though we do learn that she is saving up for breast implant surgery.
