The sort of independent, religious-themed picture that would have been four-walled back in the 1970s, "Woman, Thou Art Loosed" is an earnest drama about spiritual redemption that is likely to strike quite a chord with certain audiences. The film is based on a novel, stage play and Grammy-nominated recording by the Bishop T.D. Jakes, who plays himself as a major character in the film. Christened by Time magazine as the "next Billy Graham" -- a fact mentioned in no short order -- Jakes is a highly charismatic preacher, which is made evident by the film's employment of several excerpts from his sermons.
