Even a year ago, such a gung-ho, flag-waving ode to militarism would have felt strange on American movie screens. Toplined by Mel Gibson, his chiseled profile frequently looming against the smoky, chaotic sky, the film should open strong, connecting largely with males of all ages. While "Soldiers" may not develop the legs of "Hawk," which is a much better movie, the Paramount film should nevertheless rack up substantial boxoffice numbers.
