Not content with even the illusion of allowing things to play out naturally -- you know, dad burning the burgers, getting the kids to school late, etc. -- the ante is very clearly upped with required massive sleepovers, the sudden appearance of pigs and llamas on the front lawn and the requirement of building soapbox derby racers, while following an impossible deadline. What we get here, then, is scarcely the pretense of a genuine parenting challenge but instead a sort of live-action cartoon that cares more about drilling home sexist stereotypes than depicting any hard lessons of role reversal. While their spouses get pampered and schooled in the art of bartending at a raucous club, the men are obliged to deal with their kids and all of the attendant hassles: housekeeping, cooking, discipline, time management and enduring the usual whining, muss and fuss of parenthood.
