Unencumbered by any artistic ambitions and rated a family-friendly PG, director David McNally's "Kangaroo Jack" can be added to the shortlist of serviceable, better-than-you-expect comedies released in the usually grim-for-new-releases month of January. Produced with the usual finesse by Jerry Bruckheimer and starring Jerry O'Connell and Anthony Anderson as unlucky best friends connected to organized crime, the wide Warner Bros. Pictures release may do surprisingly well at the boxoffice given its eagerness to please without being unduly offensive.
