An appealing lead performance from its leading man and a wonderfully sentimental, if overly familiar, story line are the chief virtues of this French drama, a huge success in its native country. The tale of a teacher at a school for troubled youths who inspires his charges by starting a chorus and instilling in them a love of music, "Les Choristes" is a worthy successor to the many similarly themed efforts that have preceded it. An official selection at this year's Montreal World Film Festival, it is being released via Miramax early next year.
