Queen hosting party for 'Blue Peter'

September 24, 2008 In what amounts to a major coup for one of the U.K.'s best-loved children's programs, the queen will host a special 50th birthday party for long-running BBC show "Blue Peter" at Buckingham Palace on Oct. 16, it was announced Wednesday. "Blue Peter," the magazine show that has shown generations of British youngsters how to make things out of cereal boxes and cardboard tubes, will run a special extended edition of the show from Buckingham Palace, with input from presenters and producers from each of its five decades on the air. Series editor Tim Levell said he is "absolutely delighted" that the monarch was recognizing the anniversary, pointing out that the queen was presented with a golden badge at her Golden Jubilee seven years ago.
