'Dark Knight' on top overseas
August 17, 2008 Batman triumphed on the international circuit during the weekend as Warner's "The Dark Knight" reclaimed the No. 1 slot with an estimated $42.4 million from 7,700 screens in 60 markets, pushing its foreign gross to $328.6 million. The Clone Wars, the feature-length digital animation from the Lucasfilm factory, on 3,200 screens in 22 markets for an estimated $7.6 million. The weekend's No. 1 domestic title, DreamWorks/Paramount's "Tropic Thunder," the comedy-satire from actor-director Ben Stiller, opened overseas in two markets, laughing all the way to $2.5 million from a combined 437 screens in Russia and the United Arab Emirates.
