Democracy Video Challenge winners revealed
June 16, 2009 The Democracy Video Challenge, a global online video competition launched by the U.S. State Department in conjunction with entertainment comapanies and youth groups, announced on Tuesday the six winners of its inaugural competition, which attracted more than 900 submissions. Director Michael Apted and Peruvian economist Hernando de Soto chaired the selection process, which chose 18 finalists on May 18. Challenge partners included the Center for International Private Enterprise, the International Republican Institute, the National Democratic Institute, the International Youth Foundation, the DGA, the MPAA, NBC Universal, New York University's Tisch School of the Arts, TakingITGlobal, USC's School of Cinematic Arts, the U.S. Department of State, William Morris Endeavor Entertainment and YouTube.
