Germany boosts cultural funding


June 24, 2009 Crisis or no, Germany is not planning to cut back on its funding of the arts -- and that includes cinema. The German cabinet on Wednesday approved a new €1.13 billion ($1.6 billion) annual federal budget for cultural programs, representing a boost of nearly 8% compared with 2005, the year German cultural minister Bernd Neumann took office. Neumann has been a particular booster of the German film industry.
