'Transformers' on top heading into holiday

July 04, 2009 Revenge of the Fallen held on to the top spot at the North American boxoffice on Friday as the Fourth of July weekend kicked into gear. Michael Bay's destruction debut took in an estimated $17.8 million for the day, the movie's 10th day of release as its cumulative domestic gross moves ever closer to the $300 million mark. Dawn of the Dinosaurs, which actually debuted in the top slot Wednesday, slipped just behind Transformers on Thursday and held that position on Friday, nipping on the heels of Transformers, as it collected about $17 million in 4,099 locations.
