ESPN sets Premiere League channel date
July 07, 2009 ESPN said Tuesday that it will launch its new U.K. Premier League channel Aug. 3 and will launch a version of the channel in high definition, the first such ESPN channel in Europe. The launch comes after the broadcaster secured rights to 46 Premier League soccer matches per season for the next three years after Setanta Sports failed to meet payments two weeks ago. Lynne Frank, ESPN managing director for Europe, the Middle East and Africa, said the channel would offer "a compelling mix" of live Premier League soccer, international sports and a range of premium U.S. sports that had previously been available only on ESPN America, which will now be integrated into the new channel.
