Named for Buddy Holly's song "Rave On" and the spirit of such girl groups as the Marvelettes and, especially, the Ronettes, the team of singer-guitarist Sune Rose Wagner and his partner, singer-bassist Sharin Foo, link up Holly with Phil Spector's "wall of sound," as fronted by girl groups, singing songs that could've come from a young Brian Wilson.
The pair were joined by an animated tour guitarist and hard-pounding drummer and also aided by some prerecorded backing tracks for a short, to-the-point hourlong headlining set Thursday at the El Rey.
The title track of "Chain Gang" was dedicated to co-producer Richard Gotterher, whose credits range from '80s Go-Go's to early Blondie in the '70s back to writing '60s classics like "My Boyfriend's Back."
