Jackie Chan and Owen Wilson bounce back from career low points -- "The Tuxedo" and "I Spy," respectively -- in the historically chaotic but broadly entertaining "Shanghai Knights," a follow-up to their kung fu Western "Shanghai Noon," released three years ago. Leaving the Wild West and shifting to Victorian England, the Touchstone Pictures/Spyglass Entertainment film is better than the original and sure to round up herds of paying customers judging from the enthusiastic response of a Saturday night preview crowd in Hollywood. With fight scenes that show Chan is still a formidable screen showman, many evocations of classic cinema and Wilson's extremely likable comic persona in full bloom, "Knights" is an elaborate and (for the genre) somewhat lengthy production that director David Dobkin ("Clay Pigeons") keeps on track quite successfully.
