In "Cry Wolf," such technological advances as instant messaging and cell phone cameras figure prominently in the plot, with the result that the film seems less interested in suspense than in providing a primer for parents as to what devices their teens are fiddling around with all day. Opening Friday without being press screened, the film actually is, no pun intended, a cut above the usual level of slasher films, with its overly convoluted plot enhanced by an impressive level of cinematic style. Set in a stodgy prep school in the middle of a gorgeously autumnal country setting, the story revolves around a group of students who play a silly game in which one is dubbed the Wolf and the others must guess who it is.
