With its equal-opportunity full-frontal nudity, frank portrayal of human sexuality and unabashed depiction of brother-sister incest, it is difficult to see this latest film from Italian director Bernardo Bertolucci receiving anything but an NC-17 rating, which will drastically reduce boxoffice potential.
Based on Gilbert Adair's 1988 novel "The Holy Innocents," this film can expect strong numbers in a few select urban areas but wash out everywhere else.
Overseas boxoffice should be better, reflecting the less puritanical attitudes of Europeans.
