While the title makes it sound like another tongue-in-cheek horror flick in the "Scream" vein, "Jeepers Creepers" manages to induce genuine heebie-jeebies -- for the first half-hour, anyway. [...] the initial, neatly sustained eerieness soon gives way to increasingly freaky plotting that seriously diminishes the picture's promising fear factor. Young adults looking for some last-minute, pre-back-to-school chills could give this MGM release a decent opening weekend, but the R rating will take a bite out of that core fright-night audience.
