In Hollywood's Golden Age, movie moguls were able to put films together by matching up screenplays with directors under contract to their studios. Talent agencies, however, have an edge when it comes to packaging films with their clients. The business of packaging movies was the focus of my conversation Thursday with Hal S. Sadoff, ICM's head of international and independent film, who explained, In today's environment as the studios are being forced by their corporate parents to reduce the amount of money they spend in the film production area, they still have these distribution slots that they need to fill in their domestic and international distribution systems.
