When a charitable organization offers to fulfill the wish of a 16-year-old boy with terminal cancer, he pulls a switcheroo during the televised presentation, asking not for a day of fishing with his favorite football player but an unchaperoned weekend with his favorite supermodel. Whatever emotional impact the film has, muffled though it is, rests on the low-key performances, especially those of leads Michael Angarano (who also played a dying teen in "Lords of Dogtown") and Cynthia Nixon, as the single mother trying not to crumble under the devastating certainty of her impending loss. A production of HDNet Films, the feature opens today through Magnolia Pictures and is headed quickly to other formats as part of Mark Cuban and Todd Wagner's strategy to collapse theatrical windows.
