Paramount Pictures is in negotiations with a private equity fund headed by financier George Soros to sell the DreamWorks film library.
Paramount, a division of Viacom, reached a deal last month to acquire DreamWorks for $1.6 billion, but Viacom's board approved the bid only after Paramount execs proposed selling rights to the 59-title library to private investors to help raise cash, which would limit Viacom's financial outlay in the DreamWorks acquisition.
[...] Paramount said it was looking to sell the library, which includes such titles as the Oscar winners "Gladiator" and "American Beauty," for $850 million-$1 billion.
