American films seldom venture into moral quagmires without a clear map to the quickest exit. In this film, though, director Roger Michell and writers Chap Taylor and Michael Tolkin leave us stranded with characters who genuinely want to do the right thing -- but never do. A studio film willing to ponder such things as corporate ethics, individual responsibility and self-destructive behavior makes for a fascinating drama, but a considerable challenge to Paramount's marketing team.
