Chris Carter's "The X-Files" has stood the test of primetime during the past decade, but on Wednesday, Carter decided it was time to call it a wrap at the end of the season in May. At its peak in the mid- to late-1990s, "X-Files" was ubiquitous in pop culture, sparking renewed interest in the paranormal and secret government conspiracy theories. "X-Files" also was one of Fox's first critically acclaimed series, earning an Emmy nomination for best drama series in 1996 and a drama actress trophy for Gillian Anderson in 1997.
