"High School Musical" is a contemporary take on the old Mickey Rooney-Judy Garland routine of two kids saying, "Hey, let's put on a musical!" Despite its upbeat premise, though, the Disney Channel original movie has about as much personality as the stale air that tries to inflate it and pump up its volumes.
The problem with "High School Musical" is its reliance on a stale plot line and incredibly seen-it-before dialogue.
The story of two teens who try hard to put on a musical despite opposition from what seems the rest of the student body at their high school, there is about as much originality here to last barely one number.
